Household Mapping GIS mapping of all households using information from the Cook Islands Census 2006. The main objectives of this project is two fold; Capacity Building in GIS skills and knowledge and secondly, contribute to social and economic development through the provision of spatial data. Preliminary work on this project is shown below. Proposal developed by November 2009 In progress. It is intended that this project "piggy backs" on current and/or future projects as a means of equitable mainstreaming of financial and human resources i.e, Sustainable Land Management Project (cache) (GEF funded)

A Risk Assessment Project (funded by the EU) is also being designed for the district of Ngatangiia, in particular, the water catchment of Avana and extending to the coast.

DTM Development - Rarotonga This project involves the use of MapINFO 8.5 and Vertical Mapper to generate a Digital Elevation Model (DTM) using the 2m interval contours of the coastal plain (0m-30m elevation) of Rarotonga.

This data can then be used for Flood Modelling and Surface Water runoff, just to mention a few uses. November 2009 In progress.

Land Use - Rarotonga & Mangaia The first part of this project is to develop a Land Use Classification for the Cook Islands .

The second part will be to carry out the Land Use for these two Islands and then extend it to the rest of the Cook Islands.

Demography This data layer is based on the 2005 Census.

The thematic theme is based on a 50m radius around the approximate position of the residence. These circular polygons are then grouped by census Enumeration Areas (EA) and a Population Density per Hectare figure is calculated by the number of people in the EA.

The positioning of houses are approximate only. The data for this layer was sourced from the EA sheets complied by NSO (cache).

The positions of the houses (represented here by a circle) was digitized from an IKONOS (2001) satellite image and is approximate only.
Roads This data layer is based on the centre-line survey of the roads and was derived from the Digital Cadastral Database currently held by MOIP. Survey Landinformation, MOIP (cache).
Electoral Maps This is based on the current Electoral Boundary. Survey Landinformation, MOIP (cache)
