SOPAC/EUROPEAN UNION EDF8/EDF9 PROJECT: Reducing Vulnerability of Pacific ACP States
The objective of the above project is to strengthen integrated development in Pacific ACP States by concentrating on three key focal areas in the island system:
- Hazard Mitigation and Risk Assessment

- Aggregates for Construction
;
- and Water Resources Supply and Sanitation
.
The Project will address problems such as: unavailability of accurate and timely data; weak human resource base; limited resources (money and infrastructure); and lack of appropriate management plans, policies and regulatory frameworks to deal with these three focal areas.
Under this project, two workshops were organised with SOPAC providing the relevant personell to undertake.

Based: Emergency Management Cook Islands, OPM
Within the framework of the SOPAC/EU Project, the Country Intern will be responsible to the National Representative of Cook Islands to SOPAC for ensuring the transmission of Project philosophy and sustainability ideals to schools, local educational establishments, village-level communities and other stakeholders.
Officer Duties
Duties of the post shall include, but not be restricted to the following principal activities:
- Co-ordination, with the SOPAC Secretariat in Suva, of national activities in Cook Islands for the SOPAC/EU Project “ Reducing Vulnerability in Pacific ACP Statesâ€,
- Establish and implement public awareness activities related to the Project in in Cook Islands
- Organise and implement community workshops
- Prepare information documentation for use in schools and the community generally to ensure the Project information resources are accessible to and used by the community
- Liaise with national advocacy personnel and provide briefing as required (Secretariat role)
- Organise national stakeholder meetings between all government and non-government stakeholders
- Responsible for overall management of the in-country Linux/MapServer installed by the Project.
- Work at the SOPAC Secretariat from time-to-time to develop personal capacity and optimise preparation of materials to facilitate the duties of the position
- Undertake other duties appropriate to skills and qualifications, as required by the National Representative of Cook Islands to SOPAC in coordination with Project Leader
