INTRODUCTION

Kia Orana and Welcome to the Cook Islands GeoCMS Mapserver. The main objective of this website is to provide mapping information relating to the Cook Islands. These data layers were compiled using the Geographical Information System (GIS) software MapINFO and then uploaded to here.

The Cook Islands Mapserver is based on Tikiwiki,(external link) (cache) a free OpenSource(external link) (cache) software. The Documentation is at http://doc.tikiwiki.org(external link) (cache). There are other GeoCMS in the Pacific(external link) (cache).

We are hosting this website by Virtual Server, a service provide by our local ISP Telecom Cook Islands Ltd(external link) (cache) which is also a key stakeholder in the Cook Islands GeoCMS Mapserver. With the participation of other Government agencies and private sector, it was possible to bring in a core group of people to ensure that the usage of the system is sustainable.

Kia Orana Everyone,

In the last couple of weeks, major software (Tikiwiki-3.5) upgrades has been conducted on the Mapserver. This includes;

  • the tightening of security,
  • tweaking the performance of the webserver,
  • and enabling new features on the site

to make your browsing experience more enjoyable.

Checkout the inclusion of posts to our forums here.

Have also added;

  • social networking functionality
  • and established ipv6 networking through a ipv6 tunnel broker in the US.

The ipv6 functionality is still awaiting TCI addition of ipv6 AAAA records. More info about IPv6 is available at this site(external link) (cache).

Also, check out my "ramblings" in the Shoutbox area.
